Whilst searching the Opera Mobile forums, I came across this fairly comprehensive list of free software for S60 phones. Some of the links are broken and there’s nothing on the development side, but a useful list nonetheless.
Also, if you’re excited by the prospect of Flash Lite 2.0 announced back in November, you’ll also be excited to hear from this official forum post that this will be available to developers from Macromedia Labs in January.
Update: Lost my phone recently. Here’s my list of the first five essential S60 apps I re-installed:
- iSync Agent
- Restore contacts, calendar and todos the Mac way. Remember the days when you had to do this by hand?
- Salling Clicker
- It’s still a great party trick to be able to control iTunes remotely from your phone.
- Opera Mobile
- The “fastest, most secure web browser available for S60 handsets”. My browser of choice (at least until Nokia’s new Safari-based browser becomes available).
- Python for Series 60
- Rapid application development and prototyping, and the ability to create stand-alone Series 60 applications written in Python. Two scripts I use a lot: Anil Madhavapeddy’s imgcollect.py, a neat way to push all your phone’s images to your laptop and korakot’s s60_gmap.py (see also korakot’s library of snippets).
